Supernatural goes on hiatus, but creator promises it will be finished
By Dan Selcke
Supernatural, the longest-running sci-fi/fantasy in the history of broadcast television is currently in the midst of its fifteenth and final season. During that time, Sam and Dean Winchester have been to hell and back, literally, fighting all manner of demons, devils and even the almighty. How will their story finally wrap up?
We’re going to have to wait to find out. The episode of Supernatural that aired last night, “Destiny’s Child,” will be the last that airs for a while. Executive producer and co-showrunner Andrew Dabb broke the news on Twitter:
First of all, yes, Dabb is quoting from Cyndi Lauper’s iconic 1983 hit “Girls Just Want To Have Fun.” What of it? And second, the “shutdown” refers to a production hiatus brought about by the global coronavirus pandemic. Supernatural is just one of a great many shows to be so affected.
But it’s not all bad news. Dabb also assured fans that, whatever the difficulties, the series will be finished. “It’s not a matter of ‘if,’ it’s a matter of ‘when.’
So, “Destiny’s Child” is the thirteenth episode of Supernatural’s final season. There are going to be 20 in all, and The CW has filmed through 18. But we’re not gonna see Episodes 13 through 18 for a while because there’s still post-production work to be done on them, and the people at those departments currently aren’t working, like a lot of other people throughout the world. And the final two episodes haven’t been shot yet, but they will be, sooner or later.
I’m glad to hear Dabb is so confident in Supernatural being finished. Love it or never watched it, it’s definitely carved out a place for itself in the annals of genre TV, and deserves to finish strong.
