Fandom Madness: Who should win the Final Four faceoffs?
By Dan Selcke
Lucifer vs Moiraine Damodred
This match-up has been very exciting to watch. At first blush, you might not think that characters from Lucifer and The Wheel of Time would get this far, but their respective fandoms have been passionately canvassing for votes, making this one of the most exciting match-ups so far!

The case for…Lucifer
Lucifer…well, this version of Lucifer…began life as a side character in Neil Gaiman’s The Sandman (which is currently being adapted by Netflix as an original series, FYI) before getting his own comic. The king of hell for thousands of thousands of years, he grows bored with his duties and moves to Earth, where he starts a new life as a suave nightclub owner. And so his unlikely ascendency to the end of the Fandom Madness bracket begins.
Although really, it’s not that unlikely. As played by Tom Ellis, Lucifer is charming, beguiling, and ultimately vulnerable, a cavalier rogue who has a heart of gold buried deep, deep down. And yes, it’s a little odd to say that satan has a heart of gold, but people are complex, what can I say?
Lucifer, the show and the character, has also withstood a lot of adversity over the years. Early on the lifetime of the show, it was criticized by conservative organizations for portraying satan in a positive light. After weathering that storm, the series was cancelled, but its passionate fanbase rallied around it, and Netflix picked it up! You can’t keep the devil down.
A vote for Lucifer is a vote for the underdog.

The case for…Moiraine Damodred
Moiraine is unique among the final four because she’s the only character not to have appeared on screen. That’s about to change: Oscar nominee Rosamund Pike is set to play her in Amazon’s upcoming adaptation of Robert Jordan’s epic The Wheel of Time series, but the fact that she got this far despite not being especially well-known should tell you something about how dedicated her fans are.
And she’s earned it! Moiraine is an Aes Sedai, a sorceress who’s dedicated her life to fighting the Dark One, who is as bad as he sounds. And unlike some of her sisters at the White Tower, she really does have her heart in the right place. She’s cautious and forward-thinking, having started to look for the messianic Dragon Reborn (Rand al’Thor, who was eliminated earlier in the tournament) decades ago, before it became clear how much the world needed him. She’s very powerful, having fought and bested many servants of the Dark One, and she will do whatever it takes to ensure that humanity survives.
A vote for Moiraine is a vote for the future.
