Trailer: Solar Opposites is definitely from the creator of Rick and Morty

Since debuting in 2013, Rick and Morty has gained legions of passionate fans who hang on every hilarious, cynical word from the mouth of misanthropic super-scientist Rick Sanchez, who travels the universe with his hapless grandson Morty, eradicating species and turning himself into a pickle…you know, normal grandpa-grandson stuff. The show is good, and it’s made a name for Justin Roiland, who not only created the series with Dan Harmon, but also voices both Rick and Morty, in addition to writing and producing episodes. The guy’s got the fire in him.

And now he’ll get to spread it. Come May 8, Hulu will be debuting the first season of his new show, Solar Opposites, in its entirety. Created alongside Rick and Morty writer Mike McMahan, the show is about a family of aliens who flee their home planet for some reason and end up settling on Earth, or as the synopsis puts it, “this human-infested crap-hole of a planet.”

Yup, this is definitely from the Rick and Morty people. Check out the trailer:

Any Rick and Morty fan will be getting serious deja vu watching this. The jokes are caustic and absurd (poor ostrich!), the dialogue is rapid-fire, and that’s Justin Roiland voicing both Terry and Korvo. (Meanwhile, Sean Giambrone plays Yumyulack and Mary Mack voices Jesse. I’m sure we’ll be able to tell them all apart soon enough.) Even the animation is pretty similar.

And none of that is a bad thing. Rick and Morty is reliably hilarious, so hopefully Roiland has another winner with this. And Hulu has already ordered two seasons of 16 episodes total, so it might be around for awhile.
