Emilia Clarke raises money for coronavirus relief, offers virtual dinner with herself
By Dan Selcke
We’re pretty deep into the coronavirus crisis at this point, with millions of people around the world sheltering in place to help prevent the spread of this dangerous disease. How’s everyone doing?
Game of Thrones veterans like Emilia Clarke are huddled at home like everyone else. But there are still things you can do to help the recovery effort from home. In Clarke’s case, she’s acting through her charity SameYou — which specializes in helping people recover from stroke and brain injury — to raise money to help fight the coronavirus. She lays out the whole thing in an Instagram video, below:
So Clarke is trying to raise £250,000 (around $310,000.00) to create a “virtual rehab clinic” to help people with brain injuries stay connected to medical professionals during the recovery process, since many are being released from the hospital early so the hospital beds can be used to treat the growing number of people suffering from COVID-19. As an extra incentive to donate, 12 givers will get to have a “virtual dinner” with Clarke.
How would that work when everyone is shut up in their homes? According to Clarke, everyone will make due with what they have in their homes — which could be funny since she admits she’s not much of a cook — and talk about “isolation, fear and funny videos.”
Sounds fun to me! If you’re interested in donating, please head here.
And if you want more of Clarke broadcasting from her home, here she is reading the children’s story Bear’s Loose Tooth with her puppy in her lap:
She’d be a natural at audiobooks.
In other Game of Thrones veteran news, we have a trailer for Survive, the new show where Sophie Turner plays one of two survivors of a plane crash, and must make her way down an icy mountain if she’s going to get out of this alive:
Survive is coming to Quibi, the streaming service made exclusively for phones. As such, all the episodes will be short, like 10 minutes or less.
I haven’t known quite what to make of Quibi sometimes, but that trailer actually looks pretty good. The service drops on April 6.
