See how Michael Biehn’s character will look in The Mandalorian

Recently, we learned that actor Michael Biehn (Tombstone, Aliens, The Terminator) had been cast in the second season of Disney’s The Mandalorian. There’s no official confirmation of who he’ll play, word had it that he’ll be a bounty hunter from the Mandalorian’s past.

Now, thanks to Making Star Wars, we have a better idea of what Biehn’s character will look like. Check out some concept art obtained by the usually very reliable site:

The design kind of harkens back to what Biehn more as Johnny Ringo in Tombstone, or the Mud Troopers in Solo: A Star Wars Story.

What I see when I look at that sketch is old Imperial armor. The helmet and the blast holstered at his chest makes it look like Biehn’s character could be playing an ex-Imperial agent. The rifle over his shoulder looks to me like the one Agent Kallus used in Star Wars Rebels.

Going further into tinfoil territory, might Biehn even be playing Agent Kallus? Kallus was an Imperial agent before the Battle of Endor, where the Empire fell. He used a Lasat bo-rifle that he claimed he took off the body of a member of the Lasat Honor Guard. Eventually, he came to respect the Rebels and worked for them as a spy, going then by Fulcrum. By the end of the show, he was taken to the new homeworld of the Lasat, a species he thought he’d been responsible for eradicating.

The Biehn-is-playing Kallus theory doesn’t really jibe with him playing a bounty hunter from Mando’s past, but we don’t have all the information at this point. And we know that Rosario Dawson is likely going to show up in season 2 as Ahsoka Tano, another character from Mandalorian showrunner Dave Filoni’s Star Wars animated series, in this case The Clone Wars. Maybe other characters from those shows are coming along.

And as long as we’re talking about rumors, Making Star Wars also reports that Halloween star Jamie Lee Curtis may be cast in The Mandalorian season 2. MSW says that while her casting is still a rumor, it’s “extremely likely” that she’s been added to the show, as she was spotted on or around the set when he was there trying to snap some photos. Although there was another movie being filmed in the same general location, so for now, don’t go betting the farm on this rumor.

It would fit with The Mandalorian’s history of very cool casting decisions, though.

The Mandalorian just dropped on Disney+ in Europe, where it’s doing very well. Season 2 is set to land this October. Let’s all hope the coronavirus pandemic doesn’t impact that release date.
