HBO is launching what they’re calling #StayHomeBoxOffice, a service most welcome when so many people are staying at home during this time of social distancing and quarantining. For a limited time, HBO is offering the ability to watch some of their iconic films and shows for free, sans subscription.
This is terrific news for anyone who anyone who’s wanted to binge classic shows like The Sopranos or The Wire but didn’t want to spend money on yet another service. In all, there are nine original series available to watch for free: Ballers, Barry, Silicon Valley, Six Feet Under, The Sopranos, Succession, True Blood, Veep and The Wire. People will also have access to a wide array of documentaries…
…and a handful of movies, including Detective Pikachu, Isn’t It Romantic, The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part, Smallfoot, and more.
Fans can access these titles via HBO Go/Now starting today, April 3, even without a subscription. It’s a gracious gesture, although surely HBO is also hoping expose more people to its content before its streaming service HBO Max launches in May.
Also, we can’t help but notice that some of HBO’s biggest series aren’t included here, namely Game of Thrones. Westworld, which is in the middle of its third season, is also missing. I guess they wanna keep a few things exclusive.
#StayHomeBoxOffice — take it seriously, folks!
