The coronavirus may have a lot of people shut up in their homes, but it’s also encouraging fans to come together across the world in all sorts of magical ways. Doctor Who showrunners and cast members have joined fans for rewatches of classic episodes, for example, tweeting along with everyone else. In these dark times, it’s comforting to see how people can still bond over their mutual love for movies and TV.

The Marvel fandom is also getting in on it. Just recently, they held a Quarantine Watch Party of Guardians of the Galaxy, and guess who joined? Director James Gunn!

And Gunn did more than watch; he even dropped a little tidbit about Rocket Racoon’s backstory, and how it might play into Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3:

Plenty of fans have noticed the scarring on Rocket’s back. What happened to him? Gunn clearly has a plan:

I’d love to learn more about what sounds like Rocket’s very rough backstory. And of course, all the Guardians have pain in their pasts, although some wear it differently than others:

Gunn also talked a little about changes made to the movie along the way:

Also, while Marvel has a reputation for keeping tight hold of the thread between its many movies, Gunn makes it sound like there’s not as much oversight as you might think when it comes to keeping the mythology straight:

And of course, he talked a little about the music in the movie, which has exposed a lot of people to tracks from the ’80s they never would have otherwise heard:

Okay! Will all that info tide us over until Vol. 3 comes out?

And of course,

Great, now we’re crying.

Along with Guardians, the Quarantine Watch Party has done Doctor Strange, Bloodshot, Birds of Prey, Spider-Man: Homecoming, Deadpool, and more. Who might show up in the future?

Next. Steve Carell leads Netflix’s Space Force, from the creator of The Office. dark
