Like every other show and movie out there, filming on The Witcher is on hold due to the coronavirus. Netflix’s adaptation of Andrzej Sapkowski’s fantasy novels may have divided critics, but it was a big hit with audiences, and now millions of people are eagerly awaiting the second season.

Even before the coronavirus hit, Witcher showrunner Lauren Hissrich didn’t think we see that season until 2021. Now, that’s all but guaranteed, although filming was well underway before things shut down. However, she’s trying to keep spirits up in these frustrating times. Check out a behind-the-scenes picture from the set of season 2 she revealed the other day:

Obviously we can’t make out much — they’re filming in a forest, I can tell that much — but if you zoom in on the guy just to the left of the center of the frame, it looks very much like Henry Cavill as Geralt of Rivia. It’s the long grey-white hair that does it.

There’s another guy in costume standing several feet away from him, but I don’t now who it is. We know that Netflix has cast a lot of new people for the upcoming season, including Game of Thrones veteran Kristofer Hivju (Tormund Giantsbane). (Incidentally, Hivju was diagnosed with the coronavirus, necessitating a “deep clean” of the Witcher set, but he was doing well in quarantine the last we heard from him. Here’s to a speedy recovery.)

And of course, season 2 will also see the return of characters like Yennefer of Vengerberg (Anya Chalotra) and Princess Ciri (Freya Allan), who finally met up with Geralt at the end of the first season. This next season will adapt the book Blood of Elves, which is full of new characters and exciting happenings. Let’s hope we see it sooner rather than later.
