The stronghold of Bebbanburg.
A Dane, looking a lot like Cnut, emerges from a building to meet his men.
The bloody aftermath of a battle where civilians have been slaughtered, perhaps in Winchester. “How has it come to this?” Aelswith asks,
Cnut raises a severed head for his followers to see. The head doesn’t look familiar. Once again, the Danes are riled up and ready for conquest.
Aelswith, the pious and protective mother of the king, worries about all the perils facing Edward and Wessex (and how she’ll probably have to put up with another alliance with the pagan Uhtred again).
Uhtred on the move, afloat with Finan and Beocca.
Charge!
The Brida-Cnut connection. “The kings are dead,” Cnut says. “We shall sit on Alfred’s throne.”
Warriors charge the front doors of the royal palace in Winchester. The woman on the right is likely Brida.
Danes use a battering ram to smash at the gates of the Winchester palace.
Cnut releases a Viking battle cry.
Aethelred sounds his own Mercian battle cry, riding into the fray with his new counselor Eardwulf (Jaime Blackley) by his side, since his previous counselor Aldhelm defected to Aethelflaed.
Spears are hurled at somebody. Ambush?
Finan dispatches an opponent.
Aethelflaed witnesses something unsettling.
A sensual shot. Perhaps Aethelred and newcomer Eadith (Stefanie Martini), sister to Eardwulf?
Edward looks pissed off. “We banish the Danes within our lifetime,” he says.
A fiery new Dane has arrived; his name is Sigtryggur (Eysteinn Sigurdarson), and apparently he is also a suitor to Uhtred’s maturing daughter, Storria (Ruby Hartley).
Aethelflaed, in full battle-mode, lets a bad guy have it.
We get a shot of locals tossing rose petals in the path of a woman; a beautiful image.
Our beloved Beocca, always wise, always watchful.
Brida in action, delivering an axe blow.
Doors swing open and it looks like Uhtred and his men stand ready to fight outside.
The Uhtred/Finan bromance continues with a hug.
