A few weeks ago, Game of Thrones fans everywhere got a shock when they learned that Kristofer Hivju, who played the fierce wildling warrior Tormund Giantsbane, had contracted the coronavirus.
This came around the time that celebrities like Tom Hanks and Idris Elba were announcing that they had it, and it was natural for fans to be worried. Happily, Hivju just posted an update on his Instagram that he and wife Gry Molvær Hivju are in the clear:
“We are fully recovered and in good health after I was infected by the Coronavirus, and most likely my wife,” Hivju wrote. “After several weeks in quarantine, and also a couple more indoors after being free of all symptoms, we are finally safe and sound.”
"We were lucky to ony have mild symptoms of the COVID-19. We send our love and thoughts to all of the people where the virus has hit much harder, and to everyone who has lost their loved ones due to the Coronavirus. Thank you for all of your support, and please remember to stay vigilant and keep your sitance, wash your hands, and most of all, take care of each other in this strange time."
It’s good to hear to hear that Hivju and his loved ones are on the mend. We’re living in scary times right now, not least of all because so much about this virus remains unknown, but stories of recovery like this make it seem like there’s light at the end of the tunnel.
That said, I definitely appreciate Hivju’s call to remain vigilant, as the world is far from out of the woods, and plenty of people are still infected, including fellow Game of Thrones veteran Indira Varma (Ellaria Sand). We’ll get through this together.
