The last few weeks have seen the release dates for many movies and TV shows get pushed back due to the worldwide effects of COVID-19. While multiple movies in the Marvel Cinematic Universe have been delayed, director James Gunn has revealed that the plans for two of his upcoming superhero blockbusters remain unchanged.
Earlier this month, Disney released an updated schedule for the MCU. Big movies hit with delays include Black Widow, The Eternals, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, Thor: Love and Thunder, among a few others. Of course, with this many delays, fans are bound to get a little worried. However, Gunn has assured us that the plans for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.3 have not changed.
Of course, Guardians 3 doesn’t have a release date to begin with, so there’s nothing to move back as of yet. With Gunn busy as he is, it’s possible shooting wasn’t scheduled to start until a few months from now, when (we hope) the worst of the pandemic has passed and Hollywood is back to work. So long as we don’t have to wait too long to see Starlord, Rocket, Gamora and the rest back on our screens, we’ll be fine.
The other big James Gunn movie coming round the bend is The Suicide Squad, a sequel to 2016’s Suicide Squad, without the “the.” At the moment, The Suicide Squad is holding onto its August 2021 release, and Gunn says production is currently “ahead of schedule,” which is always a good sign. Apparently, shootings is good and wrapped and the team is doing editing work from home.
Although things on the movie itself seem to be moving along nicely, the coronavirus has slowed down some other stuff, including the release of teasers such as promotional images:
It would be nice to get a promotional pic or two to tide us over, but given the current situation, it would be rather a lot to ask. The best thing we can do is help halt the spread of COVID-19 so we can enjoy stuff like Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.3 and The Suicide Squad as soon as possible!
