The coronavirus may be shutting down productions and pushing back release dates, but there are some shows still on the docket. Virus or not, the seventh and final season of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is premiering on ABC in late May, and we’ve got the tweet to prove it.
There’s also a clip of Agent Coulson (Clark Gregg) appearing unexpectedly and surprising everyone, as he is wont to do.
The final season will pick up where season 6 left off, with the time stranded in New York City in 1931. With their new Zephyr set to time-jump at any moment, they have to hurry to find out exactly what happened. If they fail, all reality could be in danger.
Over the years, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. has done a great job of exploring mind-bending stuff like that, whether it be alternate timelines or multiple realities or what have you, all while balancing it out with heartfelt character drama. It’s quietly become a valuable part of the fabric of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
And in season 7, it will allow them the opportunity to have a crossover with Agent Carter, another MCU show kicked off in 2015 and ran for two seasons before getting the axe. Entertainment Weekly confirms that Enver Gjokaj will return as war veteran Daniel Sousa, which must mean that the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. crew is jumping to the 1940s at some point, right?
“It wasn’t anywhere near my brain,” said Gjokaj, who was surprised to get the call to reprise the role. “I would’ve been thrilled at any moment for it to come back, but I think as an actor you don’t have time. You just have to move on to the next project…What’s unexpectedly, for me, really fun is that we realized once we got Coulson and in the same scene that they’re very similar.”
The final 13 episodes of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. start to air on May 27.
