LeVar Burton (Geordi La Forge) will be in Star Trek: Picard season 2!

The first season of Star Trek: Picard featured a lot of faces familiar to fans of Star Trek: The Next Generation. Of course, there was Jean-Luc Picard (Sir Patrick Stewart) in the lead role. But we also saw Data (Brent Spiner), William Riker (Jonathan Frakes) and Deanna Troi (Marina Sirtis), as well as the former Borg drone Hugh (Jonathan Del Arco), with Voyager’s Seven of Nine (Jeri Ryan) thrown in for good measure. With season 2 of the show set to begin production once the COVID-19 pandemic recedes, fans should be on the lookout for at least one more cast member from The Next Generation: LeVar Burton as Enterprise chief engineer Geordi La Forge.

Speaking with Entertainment Tonight, Burton talked about more cast members from TNG possibly appearing in Picard, before letting the cat out of the bag about his own involvement. “How do I answer this without getting myself in trouble?” he asked himself. “I think that is reasonable to assume that those people are still a part of Picard’s life and…sure, what the hell? Yeah, absolutely! You’ll see us all. Although probably not all at the same time, but you know, never say never.”

I’m not sure Trekkies are prepared to see Picard, Riker and Troi joined by the likes of Worf (Michael Dorn) Wesley Crusher (Wil Wheaton), Wesley’s mother Beverly (Gates McFadden), and Tasha Yar (Denise Crosby) join Burton’s La Forge all on one screen at the same time, but it would be glorious to behold. And we also know that Whoopi Goldberg will be returning as Guinan. It’s gonna be a real Next Generation reunion come next season!

“It has been a blessing to have my career to be rekindled by the new Star Treks,” Frakes said. “It didn’t hurt that I learned how to do another craft. The directing has been fantastic for me. When Discovery worked out and then Picard worked out and now there will be a new one, and another one.

Indeed, Frakes did direct on the first season of Picard. “It was a thrill to be asked back as an actor, nerve-wracking, but a thrill. I thought Marina [Sirtis] was astounding when Patrick came to our home in ‘Nepenthe.’ Spectacular!” And he’ll be coming back to three more episodes of Picard season 2!
