Uhtred has good news in new scene from The Last Kingdom season 4

With only days to go until we dive back into the continuing story of Uhtred son of Uhtred, Netflix has given us another look at a scene from the upcoming fourth season of The Last Kingdom. This scene, which is spread over two clips, features Hild (Eva Birthistle), Beocca (Ian Hart), and Uhtred (Alexander Dreymon) himself:

First and foremost, let’s be clear: if we don’t have more Hild in season 4 than we did in season 3, we will be most displeased. As to the scene itself, Uhtred arrives at the residence of Hild and Beocca (a church, we’re sure) looking happier than we’ve seen him in quite some time. Losing his wife Gisela and adoptive brother Ragnar were dual blows that left our hero despondent in season 3, so it’s good to see Uhtred smiling again. But what could be the “good news” he has to share?

We know from the season 4 trailer that Uhtred will return to his ancestral home of Bebbanburg and confront his uncle Aelfric at some point this next season. However, it remains unclear if Uhtred will reclaim his home. Even if Uhtred somehow manages to take back the fortress, we’re guessing he wouldn’t leave it again for quite sometime, certainly not just to tell his friends he’d taken it. So what else could the news be?

Of course, Uhtred could also be happy about some sort of victory, but even when victorious on the battlefield, we’ve never seen Uhtred act quite so giddy — satisfied or proud yes, but not giddy. No, we’re guessing this is another kind of happiness. Given Uhtred’s bachelor status, and the time jump we know is coming in season 4, we’re guessing Uhtred has once again found himself in love. Uhtred has never been alone for long, and despite his deep love for Gisela, it seems most likely that Uhtred finds a new romance in season 4.

Given Uhtred’s heartthrob status and those deep blue eyes you want to drown in, that’s hardly a giant leap of logic, but the real question is: with whom? With just days to go, we’ll find out sooner than later. We’ll bring the wine.
