Katie Cassidy “confident” that Arrow spinoff will move forward

Arrow feels like a distant memory, but in reality, it’s only been three months since we bid farewell to the series that laid the foundation for an entire universe of shows, from The Flash to Legends of Tomorrow and beyond. Luckily for Arrow fans, the series that started it all just might live on in its spinoff, Green Arrow and the Canaries, which has yet to snag a series pick-up order.

Arrowverse fans know that Arrow already made a backdoor pilot for the show during Arrow’s final season. The potential series stars Juliana Harkavy (Dinah Drake), Katherine McNamara (Mia Smoak), and Katie Cassidy (Earth-2 Laurel). It takes place in the year 2040 and bridges the gap between the “Crisis on Infinite Earths” crossover and the Arrow season 8 finale.

From the minute I started watching that backdoor pilot, I was all in. The episode felt different than the other Arrowverse shows. It’s female-centric, set in the future, and really just stands on its own.

Katie Cassidy spoke to TV Line about the spinoff, and it seems like she’s pretty certain that it will get picked up.

"I’m a very positive person, so I feel confident that we’ll go [to series]. If there was ever a time for a three-hander, all-female badass show, now is the time! So I’m not worried. I’m feeling pretty good about it. […] Seeing more of Black Siren and what her life was, and how she got there to 2040. Just more of her beating this path of heroes, of women, along with the Green Arrow and the other Canary. I love playing a hero, I love playing a villain. … I’m just excited to jump into it."

We’ve seen the character of Laurel go through many drastic shifts, but I’m really content with where we’ve landed with Earth-2 Laurel. She possesses all the qualities of “our” Laurel mixed with the intimidating, fierce traits of villain Laurel, aka Black Siren. And when you add Dinah Drake and Mia Smoak to the mix, it’s a recipe for absolute awesomeness.

I think it’s safe to say most of us would definitely tune in to see this potential series, and are feeling just as confident as Cassidy about its pick-up. I mean, they’d be silly not to, right?
