This week, Doctor Who was a major part of the UK’s Big Night In this week, a virtual fundraising event put on by Comic Relief, BBC Children in Need, and BBC One. The night was filled with entertainment from the UK’s biggest and brightest stars — even Prince William made an appearance! The goal was to bring some laughter into people’s homes while also supporting folks who are struggling during this time of social distancing and lockdown.

The funds raised go to support local charities in the UK, which then make sure people are safe from harm, mentally healthy, and have access to food, warmth and shelter. They also help people stay connected, active and positive in these trying times. If you’re looking to donate to the cause, it’s not too late!

As I said, current and former Doctor Who stars were a big part of the event. One special moment featured David Tennant (the Tenth Doctor) and Catherine Tate (Donna Noble) reuniting to reprise a sketch they did for Comic Relief back in 2007, with Tate as a rule-defying teenager and Tennant her frustrated teenager.

Oh, how I’ve missed them!

But perhaps the most exciting part of the night was seeing 10 Doctors spanning the last 50 years of Doctor Who, coming together to give an inspiring message of hope to frontline workers. I think I’ve watched this video a hundred times already, and I still can’t get enough:

Included in this message were David Tennant, Jo Martin, Jodie Whittaker, Matt Smith, Paul McGan, Peter Capaldi, Peter Davison, Sylvestor McCoy and Tom Baker.

Yes, they took it way back…and it was glorious!

"We’re at our best when we work together. […] Tonight we have all come together for one important reason to praise, salute and give a heartfelt thanks to real life, special doctors, nurses, and everyone working on the front lines in our NHS, care homes and hospices."

The video truly tugs at your heartstrings, especially if you’re a Doctor Who fan. But even if you’re not, we can all use messages like this right about now.
