Come Sunday night, HBO will air the penultimate episode of Westworld season 3 (yes, there are only eight episodes this time around), which means any loose plot ends will need to be tied up rather quickly.
Episode 307 is titled “Passed Pawn,” and from the look of things, it’s all about our soulful ex-soldier, Caleb (Aaron Paul).
As is the case each week, HBO has released some spiffy new photos for the episode, as well as a promo:
It looks like we’ll dive into Caleb’s backstory this week, hopefully learning what happened to the friend he’s been struggling to forget since the start of the season. “A real friend is one who walks in when the rest of the world walks out,” reads the synopsis. Okay, fortune-cookie-Westworld, that’ll be enough out of you.
Here’s Caleb wondering if he’s ever seen something so full of splendor:

And here he is in what looks like a top-secret Delos lab:

This is how Doloreses are made, Caleb:

But seriously, has Dolores taken Caleb back to Westworld? It kind of looks like it, although it’s hard to be sure just from the pics.

Bernard (Jeffrey Wright) looks troubled, which is how he always looks. That’s how you know everything is going okay with him.

And finally, in this photo, Engerraund Serac (Vincent Cassel) is…mildly amused?

How many times has Serac pulled that hologram fakeout trick on someone now? I’m starting to wonder if he has a body at all.
“Passed Pawn” was written by Gina Atwater and directed by Helen Shaver. Tune in Sunday night to see how it all shakes out, only on HBO.
