Sony/Marvel push back Spider-Man movies, Doctor Strange sequel

In the latest movie release shake-up, Sony has delayed the premiere dates for two of its most anticipated upcoming Marvel projects: Tom Holland’s third solo MCU movie as Spider-Man and the highly-anticipated sequel to Spider-Man: Into the Spiderverse.

These delays come as a result of the coronavirus, which has put Hollywood (and a lot of other businesses) on hold for the moment. Per The WrapInto the Spiderverse 2 has been delayed from April 8, 2022 to October 7, 2022. Meanwhile, Tom Holland’s untitled third Spider-Man movie — the sequel to Far From Home — has been dealt a slightly shorter (yet still substantial) delay, from July 16, 2021, to November 5, 2021.

In fact, the entertain Marvel Cinematic Universe is reshuffling. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness has been pushed from November 2021 to March 2022. On the other hand, Thor: Love and Thunder has been moved forward one week to February 11th, 2022, meaning that it will fall on Valentine’s Day weekend. I mean, “Love” is right there in the title, so that tracks.

And it’s not just Marvel. Sony changed up the premiere dates for 10 movies in total. They weren’t all delays, though. Sony’s long-awaited adaptation of the classic video game Uncharted, which has slogged through development hell for years, has actually been moved up three months from its planned release, from October 8, 2021 to July 16, 2021. Oddly enough, July 16 was the original slot for the Far From Home sequel, so you’ll be getting a dose of Tom Holland (he’s playing a young Nathan Drake in Uncharted) one way or another.

At least Spider-Man fans are finding creative ways to have a bit of fun during the wait. Last year, producer Amy Pascal teased to ComicBook.com that the third movie in the trilogy would continue the ‘Home’ theme that has been present in the two previous titles: Homecoming and Far From Now. Fans have their guesses ready:

I’m all for more Spider-Man memes to keep us entertained in quarantine. Keep them coming, internet.
