Legends soars, The Flash flops, and Batwoman drops a major revelation

Let's find out!rnrnWhile Batwoman and DC's Legends of Tomorrow both had solid episodes this week, the same cannot be said of The Flash . It's really starting to falter and I'm afraid that with the season cut short, we will get a very disappointing end to what has been a mediocre season at best (apart from its Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover episode).rnrnThere's a lot to break down from the week, so let's get right to it! All rights reserved.[/caption]rn Batwoman Episode 117: "A Narrow Escape" rn Batwoman had me on the edge of my seat this week, and that's putting it lightly. It's been a while since we've had a solid Batwoman episode, and I'm glad that after a brief hiatus, this is what they got to open with.rnrnThe events of the previous episode have completely messed with Kate's mind, because it marked the first time she murdered someone: August Cartwright. We often forget that not all of these superheroes have actually killed someone, so when it does happen, they have a lot of emotions to contend with.rnrnHaving killed the man who ruined her and her family's life, it feels as if Kate should feel vindicated. But instead, she falls apart and decides to take a hiatus from being Batwoman. One hiatus ends, another begins, huh?rnrnBut while Kate is taking a break from being Batwoman, others are trying to make up for her absence by pretending to be her. It doesn't bode well for the city, but A for effort, I suppose. Of course, the moment Kate decides to take some time off and hide in her feelings, Gotham City is forced to face an old foe: the Detonator.rnrnHis M.O.? Drugging his captives so that when they come to, they find bombs strapped to themselves. They're given two options: 1) Detonate themselves and end their life, or 2) Set off a bomb elsewhere in the city and end someone else's life.rnrn rnrnWhen Jacob becomes the Detonator's next victim, Kate has no choice but to come out of the darkness. With some investigating, Luke and Batwoman figure out that the Detonator is none other than C.R.O.W.S. agent Miguel Robles. But that's not all. He's also is responsible for the murder of Lucius Fox.rnrnMuch like Kate lost her rationality when deciding to kill Cartwright, Luke can't seem to hold back his rage when Robles is right in front of him. Kate is still trying to work through her trauma but has to snap out of it to prevent Luke from doing what she did. It's an interesting juxtaposition.rnrnThat means she has to confess that she killed Cartwright, and that it's taken away all sense of belief in herself. Luke snaps out of his rage and they manage to make it out of harm's way while saving Jacob's life.rnrnWe've come to see Kate as a very conflicted woman who hides behind her wounds and her Batwoman persona. There's always something going on beneath the surface, and seeing her internal struggle this week and last week has been very intriguing.rnrnI'm glad they gave us Luke's conflict to compare with Kate's, because it's ultimately what pulls them both out of the darkness.rnrnLuke casually drops a major Arrowverse reveal while trying to convince Kate that she's not alone in succumbing to the dark, evil side of things. She looks up to her dear cousin Bruce, aka Batman, in every way, and she doesn't believe that he's ever done anything wrong. This couldn't be farther from the truth, according to Luke.rnrnAnd then Luke namedrops a huge Batman character that we certainly weren't expecting. Apparently, Bruce left Gotham because he murdered...THE JOKER. Mind you this is the first time we've heard the Joker mentioned by name in any of the Arrowverse shows. This a huge deal, and it's an even bigger deal that Luke reveals Batman is the one who killed the Joker, who everyone thinks is in Arkham Asylum.rnrnNow, we can look at this reveal in many different ways. Is the Joker really dead? Did Batman really kill him? What does this mean for the Batwoman universe? Will Batman eventually show up in the series? And what comic book arc are they trying to tackle here?rnrnI have so many questions, and I can't wait to see where the series is going to go from here. I mean, Joker , how incredibly cool is that?rnrnAnyway, this reveal helps Kate realize she isn't alone in her darkness. Bruce went through the same ordeal, and it took him away from Gotham City, but Kate is still there, and she's going to continue keeping the city safe even with her demons tagging along with her.rnrnhttps://youtu.be/ZWCFK1p9y68rnrnIn other news, Kate and Mary finally have the "I know you're Batwoman" talk, finally bringing Mary onto the team. I'm super hyped about this because I love Mary as a character, and I didn't like that she was on the outskirts of things that happened this season. It can only mean great things for next season, right?rnrnMeanwhile, Julia Pennyworth and Sophie team up in this week's episode, leaving us to wonder whether we have a new couple alert on our hands? I have no idea what they've been doing this season, but it shows no signs of getting out of this rough patch. In this week's episode, "Liberation," we're primarily dealing with Evil Iris and the real Iris, and learning Eva's plan for domination, or whatever the heck she's doing.rnrnIt baffles me that up until this point, Barry had no inkling that "Iris" was acting strange and unlike herself. But after she kicks him out of their home, he suddenly has an epiphany. I know some may say that she hasn't been acting that different, but I beg to differ.rnrnIn the mirror dimension, the real Iris finally learns that Eva has been against her this entire time, and is the reason why she was brought there in the first place. It took us an incredibly long time to get some traction on a boring storyline, but we are finally getting there.rnrnLet's summarize what happens with Eva: Basically, her plan to get out of the mirror dimension is finally reaching its conclusion with the help of her "kids," aka fake Iris, fake Camilla, and fake Captain Singh.rnrnTogether, the three of them use Singh's credentials to get into the A.R.G.U.S. facility and get access to Ramsay Russo. His blood is the key, apparently, to get Eva out of the mirror dimension. I'm not sure if I missed the "why" of this discovery, but we sort of just stumble across it.rnrnFake Camilla sacrifices herself in order to get Russo out of his hold, but he'd rather stay captured because whatever is out there is much worse. I guess I get it, but I don't really. Despite not wanting to be free, he gives them what they need to get Eva out.rnrnAnd this is where things get really weird and make me wish we could just watch this week's episode of Batwoman all over again instead. The entire episode, Barry tries to convince Cecile that Iris isn't really Iris. He even tries to zap the fake Iris with a prism gun in an attempt to out her. He gets this genius idea after stumbling across a picture of fake Iris where she's just a blob of prism.rnrnUnfortunately for Barry, Eva uses mirrors to swap out the gun and turns the tables on him instead. Instead of fake Iris being revealed, they make it seem that it's Barry who isn't Barry. Luckily, Cecile's powers come in handy and alert her that Barry isn't a fake.rnrnSo after Cecile lets him go free, Barry speeds on home only to discover fake Iris in the middle of a conversation with Eva, and something is about to go down. That something is Eva finally coming over to the real world, but before that can happen, The Flash decides to put us through a painstakingly cheesy sequence of Barry and fake Iris fighting. Well, it's more Barry getting stabbed repeatedly by shards of mirror as fake Iris uses her arms that are now pointy mirror swords (yah, it got weird) to hurt him.rnrnAt some point, this sequence comes to an end after the real Iris realizes that Eva and her "children" are connected. Aka, if she pisses Eva off, it'll affect her "kids." Some taunting and jabbing at Eva later, fake Iris succumbs to the little bit of real Iris inside of her and goes free...or something...as Barry holds her in his arms.rnrnAnd the fun isn't over just yet. Eva steps out of the mirror dimension, leaving the real Iris behind. She proceeds to poke some more at Barry, who can't heal as quickly anymore due to his slower speed, before scurrying off.rnrnWhen he comes to, he's healed, but defeated. So what does he do next? Snuggle up next to a mirror and hope that the real Iris can hear him on the other side.rnrnAnd guess what real Iris is doing?rnrnThe exact same thing. Oh, the horror.rnrnhttps://youtu.be/ap40dlscJ1ErnrnPerhaps the only semi-exciting thing about this week's The Flash is watching Cisco and Ralph try to save Caitlin, who has been hurt by a light wound. Even that is a bit of a stretch, but anything to get away from the mirror of it all.rnrnCan next week be better? This show always puts a smile on my face and has me laughing until I'm clutching my stomach out of happy pain.rnrnThat said, this episode gets kind of heavy as it deals with the loss of Behrad, who I'm pretty sure is going to return in true Legends fashion. It still hurts, nonetheless, because despite being a new character, Behrad has definitely grown on me, as has this new sassy version of Zari.rnrnSpeaking of Zari, she joins John Constantine on a misadventure to find the last Loom of Fate. Charlie reveals that she had given this ring to one of her sisters to ensure that it would be hidden in an impossible place. She did not, of course, anticipate desperately needing it eventually. But hey, then we wouldn't have gotten this Constantine/Zari team-up. I must say I am totally shipping as a couple now. Sorry, Nate.rnrnWith the help of the Legends, Constantine attempts to acquire the ring, and he's almost successful. But before he or Zari can grab it when it appears, Sara has a dizzy spell and faints, breaking the circle. (Side note: Sara is experiencing the repercussions of being hit by Atropos, another one of Charlie's sisters.)rnrnWhile trying to grab the ring, Zari and Constantine fall through a portal that lands them in the house, but in a different time. He had tethered the ring to the house, but it just caused them to travel back in time to when the house was a hostel of sorts. Unfortunately, a series of Encores start showing up at the hostel, everyone from Bonnie and Clyde to Jack the Ripper, and they're all after the ring as well.rnrnAfter some fighting, zapping, and heroism from both Constatine and Zari, they finally do acquire the ring. And ALMOST SHARE A KISS! Ugh, I was so here for that happening.rnrnThey're interrupted by the Legends, who figured out where they were there thanks to Ava's trip to Hell to talk to Astra, who is now helping them. It looks like everyone got screwed over in the process, but there is nothing to do but to work together to defeat the common enemy.rnrnhttps://youtu.be/wBtK1VbyyMYrnrnAll in all, Legends gives us a lot to laugh about this week, and renews me with hope that Behrad may soon come back. They have all the pieces of the puzzle, so here's to hoping something magical happens.rnrnAlso: Zari and Constantine. Shall we call them #ZaraCo or #CoZa, or #ZaranTine? Whatever we decide, we just need to see this couple happen.rn Grade: B+ rnAnd that's it for the Arrowverse shows this week! While it's obvious I was completely disappointed with The Flash , I'm really banking on Batwoman from here on out. I'm hoping it gives us what we need until whenever the Arrowverse returns for its next season.rnrnPlease keep the Easter eggs coming, Batwoman ! And Legends , never stop with the shenanigans.
