Sebastian Stan teases The Falcon and The Winter Soldier

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier will be the first scripted MCU series to drop on Disney+, and Sebastian Stan is eager to mark his first television appearance as Bucky Barnes. In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Stan told fans of what to expect from the upcoming streaming series.
This will be the first of a few dramas set within the Marvel Cinematic Universe to come to Disney+. We’ve also got WandaVision on the way, as well as a Loki show.
When a series like The Falcon and the Winter Soldier comes around, there are bound to be concerns from fans that it will fall short due to budget constraints, especially when it’s compared to movies like the box office record-breaker Avengers: Endgame, which was the previous MCU appearance for both Sebastian Stan’s Winter Soldier and Anthony Mackie’s Falcon. However, Stan has assured us that the series feels cinematic. “It felt like both. In a lot of ways, it felt like a movie,” he said.
In terms of tone, he also revealed that this series has a similar feel to his first MCU movie, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, while maintaining some of the “massive action scenes” we all know and love.
"What I loved about it was that, tonally, it was very much in the same world that Captain America: The Winter Soldier was, which was one of my favorite experiences that I’ve ever had, period. So, in a sense, it was grounded and very much in the world as we know it. But, it’s also really jam-packed with a lot of massive, massive action scenes mixed with deep focus on character."
He pointed screen-time out as a huge benefit that comes from filming a serialized drama. When you look at movies like Infinity War and Endgame, neither Bucky nor Sam Wilson had an abundance of screen time. Now that they’ve got a TV series, the writers have an opportunity to explore these characters in a way we haven’t yet seen.
“These characters are getting so much more mileage for all of us to explore them,” Stan said. “We can put them in situations that we’ve never been able to put them in before because you now have six hours as opposed to two.”
Speaking about the final arc of Avengers: Endgame, he addressed fans who were disappointed that Bucky and Cap didn’t get much of a final farewell. “To merge all those different stories together, you could’ve had another movie of everybody saying goodbye to each other,” he said.
Considering Bucky and Captain America’s history, many assumed that Cap would pass on the shield to Bucky, but in Endgame that wasn’t the case. In fact, it was actually Sam Wilson (Falcon) who was given the title. Stan offered his opinion on Cap’s choice. He believes that Bucky never needed the shield, whereas Sam Wilson did.
"Steve is saying to Bucky, ‘You’re going to go and do that, too. I’m not going to put this thing on you. We’re both going to live our lives — the lives that were actually taken from us back in the ‘40s when we enlisted.’"
The Falcon and the Winter Soldier was set to release this summer. However, filming in Prague was halted due to coronavirus, so there is no confirmed release date.
