Game of Thrones veteran B.J. Hogg dies at 65

Actor B.J. Hogg, who played Lannister bannerman Ser Addam Marbrand on Game of Thrones, has died, reports MSN. He was 65.

Hogg only appeared in one episode of Game of Thrones: the season 1 finale, “Fire and Blood,” where he and several other prominent Lannister loyalists discussed war strategy with Tywin and Tyrion. Hogg was better known throughout his long career as a comedic actor. For over two decades, he appeared as Big Mervyn on the BBC Northern Ireland show Give My Head Peace, a comedy that poked fun at political parties, paramilitary groups and sectarian divisions in Northern Ireland.

“He was such a great man, a big personality and a terrific actor,” said Hogg’s agent, Geoff Stanton. “His family must be devastated and my heart goes out to them. He was just one of the nicest people I know, or knew, he is going to be such a loss.”

The team behind Give My Head Peace put out a statement as well, per RTE. “He was a fine actor, great colleague and a true friend. Our thoughts are with his wife Elish, son Nathan and daughter Abigail at this time.”

Even Peter Johnston, the director of BBC Northern Ireland, paid his respects. “BJ was a great comedy talent and a much-loved character in our long-running sitcom, Give My Head Peace. Many people will also remember his performance in the Oscar-nominated Dance, Lexie Dance. Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this sad and difficult time.”

Hogg had a long list of credits stretching back to the 1980s. At the moment, it is not know how he died, but he will be missed.
