The New Mutants is still coming out in theaters, apparently

There are few films with longer, more arduous track records than The New Mutants. This horror-themed X-Men spinoff was filmed years ago, back before Disney had acquired 20th Century Fox and assumed control of the X-Men license. And that sale was just one of the reasons this movie got delayed…and delayed, and delayed.

Now, while movie theaters are closed down in the midst of the coronavirus epidemic, some have been calling for Disney or Fox or whoever’s making the decisions about this thing to just release it on Hulu or whatever and end this endless slog. But according to sources at The Hollywood Reporter, the movie is still planned for a theatrical release…whenever theaters are open again. This summer? This fall? Next summer? Your guess is as good as mine.

Anyway, the movie, should we ever see it, is about a group of five young mutants who try to escape a facility where they’re being held against their will. There’s Anya Taylor-Joy as Illyana Rasputin/Magik, Stranger Things star Charlie Heaton as Sam Guthrie/Cannonball, Blu Hunt as Danielle Moonstar/Mirage, Henry Zaga as Roberto da Costa/Sunspot, and Game of Thrones veteran Maisie Williams as  Rahne Sinclair/Wolfsbane, who’s trying to justify her religious views with her ability to transform into a wolf. Hopefully we’ll get to see how she does by 2022.
