Even though Mark Hamill will probably never again play Luke Skywalker, the beloved actor does have some thoughts about the current state of Star Wars, particularly about the first-ever live-action TV show set in that galaxy far, far away: The Mandalorian.
The former Jedi Master was keen to discuss the news that his old nemesis from Return of the Jedi, the bounty hunter Boba Fett, is set to appear in the show’s second season, which will take place after Return of the Jedi but before The Force Awakens. There, he’ll played by Temuera Morrison, who played Boba’s clone-daddy Jango Fett in Star Wars: Attack of the Clones.
When last we saw Boba, he was unceremoniously knocked into the Sarlacc pit where he was supposed to endure “indescribable suffering” as he was “slowly digested over a thousand years.” So you can see why Hamill might raise an eyebrow when learning that he’ll be back.
“I thought he was a decade into getting digested at this point,” Hamill told Entertainment Tonight. “There’s so many ways they can go and [Mandalorian showrunners] John Favreau and Dave Filoni are both the right people for the job. They know it better than I do.”
Speaking of The Mandalorian, Hamill has his kid to thank for turning him onto the show he calls “superb” and “well done.”
"My son said you have to watch The Mandalorian and I think it’s great how they were able to keep it so minimalist with the characters and the story and [still] keep it mainstream. I thought it was more in theme with what George wanted originally."
At the moment, you can see Hamill a vampire on Taika Waititi’s What We Do in the Shadows. We recently learned that Waititi, who directed an episode of The Mandalorian’s first season, will write and direct his own Star Wars film. Waititi wasn’t on set when Hamill filmed his scenes for Shadows, but maybe the two could get together on the new movie? “I would love to work with him,” Hamill said.
I know Hamill said he’s done playing Luke, but there’s a whole galaxy full of parts out there.
