Supernatural will air the rest of its final season this fall
By Dan Selcke
Sam and Dean Winchester have been hunting down monsters and demons and vampires and the like for 15 damn seasons of Supernatural on The CW, and before that on The WB. They were all ready to wrap up their historic run — the show is now the longest-running sci-fi/fantasy in the history of broadcast television — in the first half of this year, but wouldn’t you know it, the world came down with a nasty case of plague, and shooting on the fifteenth and final season was suspended.
We still don’t know exactly when the series will start shooting again, but we do know that The CW plans to air the final seven episodes, including the two-part finale, this fall. This is pard of the network’s post-coronavirus game plan, which will involve pushing the premiere of its upcoming original series — including Superman & Lois and Walker, which stars Supernatural star Jared Padalecki as the infamous Texas ranger — back to the spring of 2021.
Meanwhile, it’ll be airing “original and acquired scripted series and alternative programming” alongside Supernatural this fall to fill the airtime. Those offerings will include Tell Me a Story, a modern fairytale series that debuted on CBS All Access, and Swamp Thing, which premiered on DC Universe.
So rest easy, everyone: Supernatural will round out its decade-plus run; we just have to wait a little longer than expected. With any luck, this extra time will give the producers a chance to polish the final episodes to a mirror shine.
