It’s finally happening! After months of speculation and interviews where actors artfully avoid questions, CBS All Access has ordered to series a Star Trek show about the adventures of Captain Pike (Anson Mount), young Spock (Ethan Peck) and Number One (Rebecca Romijn) aboard the starship Enterprise. The title? Star Trek: Strange New Worlds.

Fans started to clamor for a show when this trio of characters turned up in the second season of Star Trek: Discovery. Captain Pike took command of the Discovery to find and investigate the mysterious Red Angel. He transferred command of the Enterprise to Number One, who returned in the season finale to help save the day, all while young Spock was off on a side story with his adopted sister, Michael Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green).

It was an incredibly entertaining season, and fans began to demand a new series focusing on Pike and his crew aboard the Enterprise. In terms of the Trek timeline, we’re about 10 years before James T. Kirk sits in the captain’s chair.

“Fans fell in love with Anson Mount, Rebecca Romijn, and Ethan Peck’s portrayals of these iconic characters when they were first introduced on Star Trek: Discovery last season,” said Julie McNamara, Executive Vice President and Head of Programming for CBS All Access. “This new series will be a perfect complement to the franchise, bringing a whole new perspective and series of adventures to Star Trek.”

Showrunner Alex Kurtzman had his own quote: “When we said we heard the fans’ outpouring of love for Pike, Number One and Spock when they boarded Star Trek: Discovery last season, we meant it. These iconic characters have a deep history in Star Trek canon, yet so much of their stories has yet to be told. With Akiva [Goldsman] and Henry [Alonso Myers] at the helm, the Enterprise, its crew and its fans are in for an extraordinary journey to new frontiers in the Star Trek universe.”

Akiva Goldsman has already written the series premiere and is in charge of the story. Alex Kurtzman and Jenny Lumet will serve as executive producers alongside Henry Alonso Myers, Heather Kadin, Rod Roddenberry, and Trevor Roth.

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds becomes the third live-action Star Trek show on CBS All Access, joining Discovery and Star Trek: Picard. A fourth show about Section 31 starring Michelle Yeoh is still in the works. There’s also an animated comedy coming to the network from Rick and Morty writer Mike McMahan called Star Trek: Lower Decks.

There is no premiere date set for Strange New Worlds. Stay tuned.
