Game of Thrones extras pay tribute to healthcare workers with Night’s Watch oath
By Ashley Hurst
A group of former Game of Thrones extras from Northern Ireland’s film and television extra community has come together to produce a touching video of thanks dedicated to the frontline heroes working at the National Health Service (NHS) during this extremely difficult time, where so many around the world are in quarantine due to the coronavirus pandemic. They rewrite the classic Night’s Watch oath for our current moment. Watch below:
"Storms gather and now their watch begins. It shall not end until the battle is won. They will save lives, cradle weak hands, comfort the frightened, in the dark. They will wear no crowns and crave no glory. They will live and die at their posts. They are the light in the darkness. They are the watchers on the wards. They are the shields that protect the realms of all. They pledge their liven and honor to the NHS, for this night and all days and nights to come. Thank you."
It’s such a lovely tribute to frontline workers, and the Night’s Watch rewrite works brilliantly!
Other Game of Thrones stars have also come out and shared their appreciation for the work frontline healthcare workers do. Take Jerome Flynn (Bronn), who expressed his gratitude to all the NHS workers with a video message posted on the Hywel Dda Health Board Facebook page:
“I feel a little bit like how my character in Game of Thrones felt when everybody went off to fight the White Walkers and I just hung around being lazy in Kings Landing,” Jerome said of his experience during the lockdown. “In truth right now it certainly feels like you’re playing that role for all of us. I can imagine what it requires from you each day.”
"I imagine that it could be easy to judge yourself as perhaps at the end of the day not having succeeded if another life is lost. But from where we are standing, and from where I’m standing I wanted to let you know that you succeed every day. So thank you every one and keep up the amazing work so appreciate it. God bless you."
And then we have Isaac Hempstead Wright, better known as King Bran Stark, who is using his spare time in lockdown to assist his step-dad in making masks for healthcare workers:
Make sure to remain safe during the coronavirus pandemic by heeding the advice of our brave healthcare workers.
