Korcula Island, Croatia as…Tar Varlon
Tar Valon is the home of the magic-wielding Aes Sedai. It’s a floating city, an island on a river within sight of a monstrous mountain called Dragonmount. The White Tower, the central structure of the city, will likely be rendered onscreen at least partially with visual effects. The surrounding scenery will be shot on location, with CGI used to smooth out the modern edges.
With various islands to choose from, Croatia is the place to go to find Tar Valon. Tar Valon is described as having shining walls that wrap around the city, harbors to the north and south, and a grove of Ogier trees within. The buildings themselves are noted for their grace and height.
The island of Korcula may be the best fit. This island spans 20 miles, is known for its dense forest, and is the most populous of the Croatian islands not connected to the mainland by a bridge. The buildings appear to have a clean look and glow white in the sun. With some added VFX, it’d be a great template for this fabled city.
