Another day, another petition. This time, Star Wars fans have begun circulating a petition for Disney to release a four-hour cut of the third and final film in the prequel trilogy, Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith. Recently, DC fans saw Warner Bros. come through with a promise to #ReleaseTheSnyderCut of Justice League, something they’ve been demanding for years, so maybe everyone is feeling emboldened.

Anyway, the Change.org petition has just over 23 thousand signatures and counting. “Hello there! The original Star Wars: Revenge of The Sith (2005) cut was over four hours long, and we think that George Lucas should do the right thing and give the fans what we deserve and what is rightfully ours,” writes petition organizer Fraser Beitzel. “We love democracy, and we hope he does too. By signing this you are letting your voices be heard. If this petition does go viral, then we will have unlimited power and if George does the right thing then he would be strong and wise and we would all be very proud of him.”

Whoa, that’s a strong swing about democracy there. I don’t know if that requires anyone to respond to an online petition. And even if there was a four-hour cut of Revenge of the Sith lying in a box on Skywalker Ranch, George Lucas hasn’t owned the rights to Star Wars since he sold them to Disney in 2012, so he probably wouldn’t be able to do anything even if he wanted to.

…but don’t let us stop the fun.

Coming in at 140 minutes, Revenge of the Sith has earned a reputation as one of the better Star Wars films and is arguably the best of the prequel movies. It features the fall of Jedi Knight Anakin Skywalker and the rise of the Sith Lord Darth Vader. In maybe its most iconic moment, Emperor Palpatine orders his Grand Army of the Republic to execute Order 66, which wipes out the Jedi Order on Coruscant and scatters its survivors to the farthest reaches of the galaxy.

To be clear, this petition has been around for about a year, but seems to have picked up steam very recently. Sign it if you like! You never know, Mickey could be watching.

George Lucas still doesn’t know what makes Star Wars so enduringly popular. dark. Next
