The most popular show on HBO Max is not Game of Thrones

Over its eight seasons of dominating television, HBO golden boy Game of Thrones has gotten its fair shades of accolades and broken through a lot of barriers. In addition to the slew of Emmys, it was regularly the most-tweeted-about and Googled show out there, not to mention the most pirated.

And now, viewers have the opportunity to binge the whole thing on WarnerMedia’s new streaming service HBO Max. But are they? Yes they are, along with a lot of other popular shows on the service, including The Sopranos, The Big Bang Theory and Friends. But it didn’t take the top spot. That went to the new children’s show, Looney Tunes Cartoons, starring the classic characters from Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies.

What’s more, neither Game of Thrones nor Friends landed second place, either: that was claimed by another children’s show, The Not-Too-Late Show With Elmo.

According to Parrot Analytics, in its first four days of availability, Looney Tunes Cartoons was in demand at a level 19.4 times that of an average show. It does make some sense; for parents especially, there’s nothing like sitting your kids down in front of a cartoon and using that time to get some stuff done. And it’s good news for WarnerMedia executives who may have been nervous about HBO Max’s ability to compete with a family-friendly streaming service like Disney+. The fact that adult-oriented fare like Game of Thrones are available isn’t keeping kids away.

At the same time, HBO Max has yet to have a water cooler original hit like The Mandalorian over on Disney+, which dominated discussion online throughout the run of its first season. Still, this is a good start.
