5. Battlestar Galactica
In terms of serious, un-look-away-able shows, it’s hard to find a better one than the 2004 remake of Battlestar Galactica. This show was so ahead of its time, it’s not even funny.
Following a surprise attack by sentient robots called Cylons that leaves humanity all but extinct, a convoy of ships flee into space with all that remains of our star-faring race. Led by the titular Battlestar and its crew, the survivors of the Cylon genocide have to try to find a new home in a galaxy where they are hunted at every turn.
Like The Walking Dead, Battlestar Galactica deals a lot with how people function once the society they’ve relied on their whole life disappears. Of course, it’s also in a sci-fi setting, so expect lots of space battles, robot attacks, and other trappings of the genre.
It’s worth noting as well that this is a show with some serious twists. It’s a binge-able show under normal circumstances. With the option to stay at home and really sink into the mythos, it’s all but impossible to stop watching.
Don’t just take my word for it…
All four seasons of Battlestar Galactica can be streamed for free on SyFy’s website.
