Steven Moffat’s final Doctor Who story references George Floyd protests

Doctor Who has put out yet another piece of new content to help fans through these challenging times! Straight from former showrunner Steven Moffat comes a new short story, “The Best of Days,” that highlights not just the coronavirus pandemic but also the recent Black Lives Matter protests.
The story features Nardole (Matt Lucas) and Bill Potts (Pearl Mackie), both companions of the Twelfth Doctor, as they catch each other up on their lives out in space and here on Earth, respectively. Nardole is still venturing through the cosmos protecting the universe from the horrendous Cybermen, which adventure began in the season 10 episodes “World Enough” and “The Doctor Falls.”
Meanwhile, Bill is at home in lockdown, nursing her heart through a recent breakup with her girlfriend, Heather. She’s trying to go on dates with social distancing in mind, but recently, something has else has caught her attention.
She refers to walking out of her house and seeing people out and about, participating in a march. “Not all Cybermen have got handles on their heads, let’s put it that way.” In the interest of sharing only good news, Bill says that this time, it feels different. She has hope!
Bill changes the subject, asking Nardole if he’s heard from the Doctor, remarking that the slightest strange sound make her wonder if he’s returned. Of course, the Doctor won’t be the Doctor she remembers due to regeneration, but she does say something interesting.
"There’d be a serious chance I’d seriously snog his face if he wasn’t a man."
It’s interesting you say that, Bill…
Apparently, “The Best of Days” is going to be Steven Moffat’s final piece of Doctor Who writing. He was going to leave far before that, but he kept coming back to help Whovians out during these strange times. But now, it seems this is the end of the road for him.
Something tells me he’ll be back, someday.
As for what’s next for the main series, star Mandip Gill (Yaz) confirmed that while much of film and TV world has been shut down for months over the coronavirus, the Doctor Who crew did film their annual holiday special — this one is called “Revolution of the Daleks” — before everything closed for business. “I can confirm that,” Gill told Entertainment Weekly. “There is a festive episode. We happened to be quite lucky and fit it in, so that will be exciting.”
Expect that at the end of the year.
