Check out this gorgeous fan-made poster for the new Dune movie
We are a paltry six months away from the theatrical release of Arrival director Denis Villeneuve’s adaptation of Frank Herbert’s science fiction classic Dune. And while we haven’t gotten an official trailer yet, we do have lots of glossy stills of the cast sporting their House Atreides finery, Bene Gesserit robes and Arrakeen stillsuits.
Dune tells the story of Paul Atreides, a young man of noble birth who finds himself at the center of a plot on the desert planet of Arrakis, aka Dune, a crucial planet for the functional of the galactic-wide Imperium. The movie has gone all out with the casting: Timothée Chalamet is playing Paul, Zendeya his love interest — and native inhabitant of Dune — Chani, Rebecca Ferguson as his mother Lady Jessica, and Oscar Isaac as his father Duke Leto. And that’s just the tip of the iceberg.
We haven’t gotten an official poster yet either, and fans have stepped up with their own designs. Artist Haley Turnbull shared this amazingly gorgeous fan-made poster to the Dune subreddit:
"I made up my own DUNE poster using the new HD stills. Enjoy! from dune"
C’mon, you could slap that on the side of a bus and be off and running.
So far as we know, that is the official Dune logo at the bottom there. The movie will cover the first half of Herbert’s book, although people close to the movie assure fans that it will stand on its own.
I know I’m not alone in saying that an official trailer would hit the spot right about now. Dune fans have had it pretty rough when it comes to onscreen adaptations over the years. David Lynch’s 1984 Dune movie was ambitious but compromised, while John Harrison’s Dune miniseries for the SyFy network was more faithful but didn’t have the budget to bring Herbert’s story fully to life.
Is Villeneuve’s Dune finally the one where it all comes together? We’ll find out on December 18.
