Netflix’s adaptation of The Witcher was greeted warmly by viewers, quickly becoming the most in-demand television series in the world after it was released last year, even surpassing The Mandalorian, aka the Baby Yoda show, which was all the rage at the time. And nearly as popular as the show itself was the song “Toss a Coin to Your Witcher,” a ballad sung by the bard Jaskier throughout the series, all about the (exaggerated) exploits of lead title character Geralt of Rivia:
It’s the kind of song that gets stuck in your head for hours on end, and fans started to produce covers and remixes almost immediately after the show dropped on Netflix. The soundtrack and official version of “Toss a Coin to Your Witcher” was released not long after, and now, the track has gotten another transformation courtesy of Sonya Belousova, who originally composed it with Giona Ostinelli. Listen to her beautiful piano rendition below:
The piano solo doesn’t have the lyrics describing Geralt’s triumphs, but it offers an alternative to the song that’s a bit more soothing and no less addictive.
Belousova first unveiled this new take on the song during an in-studio piano concert, and she’s since gone on to announce its availability on all music platforms, including iTunes and Spotify. There’s also a vinyl of the show’s soundtrack on the horizon, so dedicated fans can get ready to add that to their collection of Witcher memorabilia.
With any luck, the love for this song will carry over into the second season of The Witcher, which is currently meant to come out in 2021, assuming production can start back up again after getting delayed due to the coronavirus pandemic. It looks like they’re on track. And who knows? Perhaps the showrunners will surprise us with another catchy song to fall in love with. If Jaskier’s in season 2, he’ll no doubt be trying to top his previous hit.
