In the first season of The Mandalorian, Disney’s live-action Star Wars show, comedian Bill Burr showed up in the episode “The Prisoner” as Mayfield, a former Imperial sharpshooter turned mercenary. He recruits out titular hero (Pedro Pascal) to help rescue a Twi’lek prisoner named Qin from a new republic transport ship. (Caution: SPOILERS ahead for the end of the episode!)
Burr wasn’t a fan of Star Wars before landing the part, but Mayfield quickly became a fan-favorite. Plus, at the end of the episode, Mando locked Mayfield and a couple of his fellow mercenaries — Burg (Clancy Brown) and Xi’an (Natalia Tena) — in a cell on that transport ship. This is the perfect excuse for Mayfield to return in season 2, right, perhaps seeking revenge?
Well, when Vulture asked Burr if he was coming back, he had some bad news:
"No, none of that. Once these two things [King of Staten Island and F Is for Family] come out on the same day, the well is dry. I got nothing. So we shall see."
Interestingly, we’d heard from reliable sources that Burr was returning for season 2, so this is a surprise. Of course, it’s possible he’s misdirecting us here, or simply that The Mandalorian slipped his mind when he was talking about upcoming projects. Or maybe he is coming back, but just not for season 2.
We’ll find out for sure when Disney+ airs the high-anticipated second season of The Mandalorian this October.
