Sam Heughan: Outlander season 6 filming is “up in the air”

Sam Heughan is the bearer of bad news, fellow Outlander fans. While on This Morning With Phillip & Holly, he revealed that the sixth season was supposed to be filming right now, but due to the coronavirus pandemic, things are still on hold.

"That’s right, yeah. We were supposed to be shooting right now and obviously things are still slightly up in the air. But I’m hopeful that we’re going to be back before we know it and they’re putting plans in place. But people can still binge it, it’s on Amazon here in the UK. You guys can watch that."

What does this mean exactly? Well, it means that the Droughtlander is going to last a bit longer than any of us would like. Sigh, I know, I’m all in my feelings about it too.

Luckily for us, we can fill the Sam Heughan and Outlander-shaped holes in our hearts by rewatching past seasons on Netflix (Seasons 1-3) or all the seasons via Starz. Oh, and let’s not forget Heughan and his fellow Outlander costar Graham McTavish have their upcoming Scottish travel series on Starz, Men in Kilts.

Plenty to keep us entertained while we wait, right?

Outlander is just one of many productions still holding off on filming, but others have slowly started getting back to a new normal. In the United States, CBS’s The Bold and the Beautiful was the first show to resume production this week with safety precautions in place, including regular testing and potentially bringing in cast members’ spouses to stand in as love scene doubles. (That’s pretty creative, isn’t it?)

And then there’s the cast and crew of Avatar 2, which quarantined in New Zealand until given approval to officially resume filming. The film’s producer John Landau shared a picture from the first day back on set:

Slowly but surely, productions are beginning again, so it’s only a matter of time before our beloved red-headed heartthrob and his Sassanech are back on our television screens.
