Netflix announces premiere date for Lucifer season 5!

You can’t keep the devil down. When Fox cancelled Lucifer after three seasons, its passionate fans rallied and got the show picked up by Netflix. After a successful forth season there, the coronavirus hit, bringing Hollywood to a standstill and resulting in some “post-production hiccups” for season 5.

But the show has worked through the pain, and Netflix finally announced the release date for the next season, complete with a video of Lucifer himself (Tom Ellis) getting up to some seriously naughty shenanigans over the past four years:

Yes, he has some kinky sex. He’s the devil, what do you expect?

For those unfamiliar, Lucifer follows the titular character after he leaves his throne in hell and opens up a nightclub in Los Angeles. Because that’s not quite enough excitement for him, he also moonlights as a consultant with the LAPD, where he’s struck up a romance with Detective Chloe Decker (Lauren German).

We don’t know what season 5 will bring for Lucifer and Chloe, but based on one behind-the-scenes pic, they had a pretty good time filming:

Lucifer season 5 arrives on Netflix on August 21. That’s a day before DC holds DC FanDome, a 24-hour virtual convention about all things DC, from the Arrowverse shows on The CW to all the upcoming DC movies to Lucifer — this version of the character technically got his start in the comic book The Sandman, published by DC.  Perhaps we’ll hear something about Lucifer season 6 there?
