Toss a coin to your witcher, the second season of Netflix’s smash hit is officially returning to production. The Witcher’s Twitter account made the announcement with a rhyme that would make Dandelion proud. Check it out:
So the show gets back to business on August 17, roughly two months from now. Netflix had been filming the further adventures of Geralt of Rivia (Henry Cavill), Yennefer of Vengerberg (Anya Chalotra) and Princess Ciri (Freya Allan) early this year, but the production shut down along with many others after the novel coronavirus spread throughout the world; cast member and Game of Thrones veteran Kristofer Hivju even caught the virus, although he recovered. Now, more and more shows are getting back into it, The Witcher among them.
As for when season 2 will debut, that’s anyone’s guess. At one point, there was hope that we might see a new season this year, but with the delay, it seems a 2021 release date is all but certain.
We hope everyone stays safe on set. Other productions resuming filming amidst the pandemic, like Avatar 2, are implementing extensive social distancing and disease safety guidelines, and we imagine The Witcher will do the same.
On a related note, Andrzej Sapkowski, the famously crotchety author of the Witcher novels, turned 71 yesterday.
Best wishes, and bring on season 2! (Please don’t use that ax on us.)
