It’s been a fantastic couple of days for Lucifer fans. I’d say they’re in heaven, but they might not like that.

Just yesterday, we finally got a release date for the upcoming fifth season of Lucifer, the Fox-turned-Netflix show about what happens when Satan abandons his throne in hell to run a nightclub in Los Angeles and moonlight as a consultant for the LAPD. We’ll be seeing the further adventures of Lucifer Morningstar (Tom Ellis) and Detective Chloe Decker (Lauren German) on August 21.

And apparently Lucifer will be naked a lot:

And now, the show has announced that it’s officially coming back for a sixth and final season sometime later. The announcement had less nudity but is still very welcome:

Lucifer takes care to mention that this will be the “final FINAL” season because we’ve been here before. After the show was cancelled on Fox, it looked like the third season might be the last one. And after it was picked up by Netflix, the upcoming fifth season was intended as the finale.

But you can’t keep the devil down. Although there were some contract negotiation-related bumps along the way, the stars finally aligned and Netflix got Tom Ellis to sign for a sixth season, along with the rest of the cast and crew. To hell we go!

Obviously, we don’t know much about the sixth season yet other than that it exists, which is enough for now. The Netflix seasons have had fewer episodes than the Fox seasons, so we can probably expect that to continue. The upcoming fifth season has 16 episodes, with the first eight dropping on August 21 and the rest to follow.
