Lovecraft Country is one of the upcoming shows I’m most looking forward to. Based on the novel of the same name by Matt Ruff, it follows sci-fi fan Atticus Black (Jonathan Majors) as he searches for his missing father (Michael K. Williams) in the Jim Crow-era south. That’s a terrifying prospect by itself, but in addition to dealing with rampant racism, he and his friend Letitia “Leti” Dandridge (Jurnee Smollett-Bell) and his uncle George (Courtney B. Vance) must also content with otherworldly monsters pulled straight from the work of horror pioneer (and legendary racist) H.P. Lovecraft.

The whole thing is run by Underground creator Misha Green and executive produced by Jordan Peele, who has had great success exploring the Black American experience with horror movies like Get Out and Us. The show looks to have all it needs to be a chilling, fascinating watch. Now all we need is a premiere date.

And now we have one! We also have an ooky-spooky poster:

Tentacle X-ing. And that is a lotta black space. Other than racism, Lovecraft was known for writing about fear of the unknown, so it tracks.

So Lovecraft Country arrives on August 16. I will definitely be there for the premiere. I mean, if quarantine is still going on we might as well, right?

Next. Why you should be looking forward to Lovecraft Country on HBO. dark
