Outlander’s Sam Heughan tops fan poll of who should be next James Bond

From a list of 20 candidates, fans want to see Outlander star Sam Heughan as the next James Bond. He’d be the first Scotsman in the role since Sean Connery.
Sam Heughan for James Bond! The fans have officially spoken and would like to see Outlander star as the next 007.
The question of who will take up the role of the famous superspy after Daniel Craig takes his final bow in No Time to Die has been bubbling up for a while now. Heughan himself has expressed interest in taking on the role and bringing Bond back to his Scottish roots. “Obviously it’s a dream for every actor,” he said on ITV’s This Morning. “I auditioned for it back when they were doing Bond 21 — when Daniel Craig was cast in Casino Royale and I think a lot of actors were seen in the U.K. Of course it would be a dream role. And a Scottish Bond, who doesn’t want to see another Scottish Bond?!”
Recently, Radio Times conducted a fan poll asking its readers to vote between on who should be the next James Bond. There were 20 contenders, all suggested by fans on Twitter. The list had names like Richard Madden, Nicholas Hoult, John Boyega, Gillian Anderson (who would make a great Bond, I’m convinced), but in the end, here’s how the top 10 broke down:
"Sam Heughan: 30%Tom Hardy: 14%Henry Cavill: 11%Idris Elba: 10%Tom Hiddleston: 5%Richard Madden: 4%Michael Fassbender: 3%Aidan Turner: 3%Cillian Murphy: 3%James Norton: 3%"
A round of applause to Sam Heughan for obliterating the competition! Sorry, I love the rest of the gentlemen on this list — wonderful choices all — but Heughan has my heart.
I would also Tom Hardy if he did the Bane voice the whole time. After that, I’d vote for Gillian Anderson. And if Ana de Armas wasn’t already in No Time to Die, she’d be a good choice, too.
We’ll have to see how things play out in the coming months. But James Bond casting team, if you’re reading, you know where the fans stand!
