Jude Law to play Captain Hook in live-action Peter Pan movie?
By Ariba Bhuvad
Ahoy, mateys! Jude Law could be heading to Neverland for Disney’s live-action Peter Pan movie, Peter Pan & Wendy, according to Variety. Would he be playing one of the Lost Boys? Or Peter Pan himself?
Nah, if he does decide to board the Jolly Rogers, it would be as the story’s infamous villain, Captain Hook. For those of you who have now associate Jude Law with his role as Albus Dumbledore in the Fantastic Beasts series, you may need to make some adjustments.
If Jude Law does join the live-action Peter Pan film, it would be released in theaters, not strait to Disney+ like Artemis Fowl or the live-action version of Lady and the Tramp…assuming theaters are open whenever it’s ready to drop. Thanks, coronavirus.
The story of Peter Pan has been told many times, and several people have played the role of Captain Hook, including Dustin Hoffman and Jason Isaacs. In Disney’s 1953 animated movie, he was voiced by Hans Conried. And let’s not forget Christopher Walken’s musical turn:
Sorry.
We’ll have to see what Disney plans to bring to this new take on the tale. But if the studio’s other live-action remakes are any indication, I don’t think we’ll be disappointed. From Aladdin to Lion King to Beauty and the Beast, we’ve had some stellar reimaginings of Disney classics over the last few years.
Jude Law has played a lot of roles over the years, often as a romantic or comedic lead, but he can definitely excel as the villain. Take his turn as the calculating and manipulative Pope Pius XIII in HBO’s The Young Pope, for example. I think it’s some of Law’s best work yet.
Here’s to hoping we have ourselves the next Captain Hook!
