Bad Batch will pick up after the end of the Star Wars: The Clone Wars.
Star Wars: The Clone Wars wrapped up its seventh and final season back in May, bringing to an end a long, 12-year journey that explored the deepened the characters of Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi, as well as introducing us to new faces that have gone on to become popular characters in their own right, like ex-Jedi Ahsoka Tano and the clone troopers of the Bad Batch.
Now, Disney has officially announced that the Bad Batch is getting a follow-up series! It’s name: Bad Batch. Brilliant!

“The series follows the elite and experimental clones of the Bad Batch…as they find their way in a rapidly changing galaxy in the immediate aftermath of the Clone War,” reads the official synopsis. “Members of Bad Batch – a unique squad of clones who vary genetically from their brothers in the Clone Army — each possess a singular exceptional skill which makes them extraordinarily effective soldiers and a formidable crew. In the post-Clone War era, they will take on daring mercenary missions as they struggle to stay afloat and find new purpose.”
The Clone Wars ends with members of the Clone Army executing Order 66, Emperor Palpatine’s master plan to wipe out the Jedi. We saw it go down in Revenger of the Sith years ago, and again in the final arc of The Clone Wars:
That said, we don’t know if the clones of the Bad Batch actually participated. The first arc of the final season followed them as they gain a new member, Echo, but they didn’t show up again. They were always a little different from the rest of the clones, so many they were able to avoid being compelled to carry out Order 66, or at least they weren’t in a position to do anything when it was executed?
Or maybe they participated and now they’re guilt-ridden; we won’t know until 2021 when the show premieres.
Bad Batch will be executive produced by Dave Filoni, the guy behind Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Disney’s live-action Star Wars show The Mandalorian. When it comes to Star Wars on TV, Filoni is the guy. Brad Rau (Star Wars Rebels) is the supervising director and Jennifer Corbett (Star Wars Resistance) is the head writer.
Bad Batch is just the lates in a string of announcements of new Star Wars shows, not to mention the rumors. There’s The Mandalorian, an Obi-Wan Kenobi show, a Rogue One prequel, probably an Ahsoka Tano show, and more. The galaxy far, far away is here to stay in a big way.
