Lucifer has been cancelled, brought back, and almost ended again, but you can’t keep the devil down.

After what seemed like an eternity, Lucifer is finally returning for its fifth season. Well, the first part of its fifth season, anyway. And Netflix has just released a trailer showing off the further adventures of Lucifer (Tom Ellis), Chloe Decker (Lauren German), Amenadiel (D.B. Woodside) and the rest of the gang:

The trailer starts right where season 4 ending, with Chloe and Lucifer saying a tearful goodbye. While he’s gone, it looks like Chloe hangs out a lot with Mazikeen (Lesley-Ann Brandt), although it doesn’t do her much good.

Lucifer eventually turns back up, back he’s acting strange. It turns out the new guy isn’t Lucifer, but his twin brother Michael, here to steal Lucifer’s life. When the real Lucifer does return, as we knew he would, there’s a reckoning needs to happen.

There was a time when the fifth season of Lucifer was going to be its last, but this show will just not stay dead. It didn’t stay dead when Fox cancelled it after three seasons, and it won’t stay dead now.

After the fifth season, we’re going to get a sixth, which the showrunners say is the last one for real this time, but they’ve said that before, haven’t they?

And in any case, the fifth season is going to take a while to get through. The first half lands on August 21, with another crop of new episodes to follow sometime later.

Next. Lucifer officially renewed for sixth (and final) season!. dark
