Game of Thrones star Tobias Menzies stars in an adaptation of Carmilla, the very first vampire book. (Suck it, Dracula.) Watch an exclusive clip below.

Over 20 years before Bram Stoker wrote Dracula, there was…Carmilla, a gothic novella by author Joseph Sheridan Le Fanu. Published in serialized form from 1871-72, Carmilla was a creepy vampire story before most people knew what a vampire was, and now, writer-director Emily Harris brings us a movie version starring none other than Game of Thrones veteran Tobias Menzies (Edmure Tully).

Although he’s not playing Carmilla, obviously. I’ll just let the official synopsis speak for itself:

"Isolated from the outside world, fifteen-year-old Lara (Hannah Rae, “Broadchurch”, Fighting with My Family) lives in seclusion on a vast country estate with her father and strict governess Miss Fontaine (Jessica Raine, “Patrick Melrose”, “Jericho”).  Late one evening, a mysterious carriage crash brings a young girl (Devrim Lingnau) into their home to recuperate. Lara immediately becomes enchanted by this strange visitor who arouses her curiosity and awakens her burgeoning desires."

Film Movement also hooked us up with an exclusive clip where Menzies’ character begins to suspect that this Carmilla ain’t quite right:

Spooky.

Carmilla premieres tomorrow, in Film Movement’s virtual cinema. If you’re looking for something chilling and atmospheric to watch in quarantine, this could be the ticket.
