Game of Thrones season 3

Season 3 brought us lots of plot twists, including the chopping off of Jaime Lannister’s sword hand! How did they achieve the affect of a handless Jaime? It was more complicated than it looked:

Elsewhere in the Riverlands, Roose Bolton (Michael McElhatton) would eventually betray Robb Stark at the Red Wedding. But for this one moment, at least, they were getting along:

You can tell the cameras aren’t rolling because Roose is actually smilling.

One of the most iconic moments from season 3, hands down, was Daenerys Targaryen laying waste to Astapor. Emilia Clarke looks like she’s in the zone as the crew pipes in smoke and steam:

The scene where Jon and the wildlings climb the Wall was visually spectacular, and as you can see, the actors were actually climbing a wall, just a much smaller one than we saw onscreen:

In season 3, Samwell Tarly (John Bradley) became the first man in living memory to kill a White Walker, possibly moments before this shot was taken:
