Star Trek: Discovery season 3 gets a premiere date!

The crew of the U.S.S. Discovery explores an uncertain future in the third season of Star Trek: Discovery, which we’ll get to watch in just a couple months!

The end of Star Trek: Discovery season 2 saw our heroes — Commander Michael Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green), Commander Saru (Doug Jones), Lt. Commander Paul Stamets (Anthony Rapp), Ensign Sylvia Tilly (Mary Wiseman) and more — goes through a wormhole and arrive in the far distant future. “Now living in a time filled with uncertainty, the U.S.S. Discovery crew, along with the help of some new friends, must work together to restore hope to the Federation,” per the official synopsis.

Like most every show in existence, the coronavirus pandemic has thrown Star Trek: Discovery for a bit of a loop, but today, CBS All Access announced when it would be returning: we can officially start looking forward to Thursday, October 15.

Why didn’t they make this announcement during of the several Star Trek panels at this past weekend’s Comic-Con@Home? I don’t know, but at least we have a release date. Some mysteries aren’t meant to be solved.

Discovery is only one of several Star Trek shows either airing on or coming to CBS All Access; the franchise is getting revived in a huge way. There’s also Star Trek: Picard, about the further adventures of Patrick Stewart’s Captain Jean-Luc Picard. The first season of that one was pretty good. Then, CBS is readying Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, which will explore what was happening on the Starship Enterprise before Captain Kirk came along.

Plus there’s a comedy show — Star Trek: Lower Decks — coming just next week! And there’s a spinoff about the covert intelligence force Section 31, starring Michelle Yeoh’s Emperor Philippa Georgiou, on the way.

Clearly, CBS is going all in on Star Trek stuff. As long as they keep the quality high, we’re not complaining.
