The first trailer for Dune is coming with Inception theatrical rerelease

Warner Bros. is releasing Inception back into theaters (hopefully) to mark its tenth anniversary, and it comes bearing gifts.

The coronavirus has pretty much wiped the slate clean when it comes to new movies being released in 2020. Black Widow was supposed to come out in May, The New Mutants has been delayed so many times it’s gotta have a Guinness World Record by now, etc.

But there are still some films hanging on. Wonder Woman 1984 is supposed to come out on October 2, Denis Villeneuve’s Dune is scheduled for December 18, and Christopher Nolan’s spy thriller Tenet is due to debut on September 3.

Will those films actually hit their dates? It’s anybody’s guess, but Warner Bros. is eager to get people back into the movie theaters. It’s planning a tenth anniversary release of Inception, Nolan’s mind-bending smash hit, in theaters very soon: on August 21 in the U.S. and on August 12 in Denmark.

I mention Denmark specifically because, according to Trailer Track, the Copenhagen cinema Palads Teatret is promising to premiere the trailer for Dune in front of Inception.

Since then, theater chain Cinema City in Portugal has confirmed that they’ll also be showing the Dune trailer ahead of Inception, so this train is picking up steam. According to Trailer Track, there’s also going to be an advance look at Tenet and a new trailer for Wonder Woman 1984.

And suddenly my interest in seeing Inception again went way up. I liked it well enough back in the day, but not so much that I’ve watched it twice. But I am interested in Dune, a sci-fi classic that’s never quite gotten a screen adaptation worthy of it, and with how promising Villeneuve’s take looks, I’d love to see some footage. The images we’ve seen are gorgeous.

And if everything keeps getting pushed back, we’ll still probably at least get that Wonder Woman trailer at the DC FanDome event on August 22. Silver linings, people.
