Fan petition demands industry recognition for Outlander after Emmys snub

Outlander was once again snugged at the Emmys, going without a single nomination. A Change.org petition isn’t about to let that nonsense stand.

Outlander was snubbed once again at this year’s Emmy Awards, not receiving a single nomination: not Outstanding Actor for Sam Heughan, not Outstanding Drama Series, not even Outstanding Hairstyling or Makeup or anything. A lot of people are pretty angry about it, and that includes me. What’s a time-traveling romance gotta do to get some industry recognition?

Other awards show like the Golden Globes have recognized the talents of Outlander cast members like Caitriona Balfe, but for some reason, the Emmys refuse to take notice. Which brings me to a fan-made petition on Change.org, simply called Outlander’s Industry Recognition.

To be fair, this petition doesn’t really call for anything specific to actually happen. It seems more like an opportunity to express frustration about the show being passed over again, an opportunity I will happily take.

Fan Carmen Gonzalez talks about why they love this series, how its resonated with fans around the world, and how its boosted the tourism industry of Scotland. If that doesn’t warrant some industry recognition, I don’t know what does.

As of now, not quite 200 have signed the petition. Is it going to get so big that the Emmys are going to retroactively give Outlander some nominations? Probably not, but at least we fans get to vent a bit about our favorite series going overlooked.

I mean, did Stranger Things really need to be on this year’s list of nominees for Outstanding Drama Series? I love the show, but I don’t see why it deserved a nomination over Outlander. And Outlander has never broken through this wall; this isn’t the first time it’s been passed over, which makes the frustration all the more acute.

And the fifth season of Outlander was one of its finest to date. Many of the actors gave some of their best performances yet, so it’s really disappointing to see it get no love at all. I mean, at least toss in a nomination for costuming or something, yeesh.

Whether this fan petition will lead to anything remains to be seen, but the efforts are appreciated by Outlander fans everywhere.
