Fans are making Avatar: The Last Airbender musicals, fan films, audition tapes…and now, parts of the series rendered in 3D!

Avatar: The Last Airbender ended over a decade ago, but lately there’s been a huge surge of interest in Nickelodeon’s animated epic, thanks in large part to all three seasons debuting on Netflix, where it’s breaking records.

I mean, we’ve got people writing Last Airbender musicals, fan films, Netflix itself is making a live-action adaptation…Avatar fever is real, and it has nothing to do with blue aliens invented by James Cameron.

With all that in mind, it’s no surprise that Jacob E Mann’s video recreating the famous opening to the show with 3D animation has caught on. For reference, here’s the original opening…

…and here’s Mann’s 3D version:

And just for fun, here’s a guy auditioning his heart out for the live-action show with the same martial arts moves from the opening:

I told you the fever was real.

Anyway, the response to Mann’s first video was so good that he put up another one: a 3D test clip from the episode “The Blue Spirit”:

And finally, a lovely render of the Earth Kingdom city of Ba Sing Se:

Mann was also careful to point out that a seven-person team worked to bring these clips to life. Obviously, there’s a ton of fan enthusiasm behind The Last Airbender right now, which bodes very well for Netflix’s series.

And hey, Netflix, if you’re looking for people to help make that show a success, a lot of these fans are making great cases for themselves, hint hint.
