Vincent D’Onofrio (Kingpin) “still believes” in Charlie Cox as Daredevil
By Ariba Bhuvad
Vincent D’Onofrio, aka Wilson Fisk, has said what’s on all of our minds: He wants to see Charlie Cox back in the role of Daredevil!
Marvel’s Daredevil swung into our lives back in 2015, the first of several Marvel Netflix shows. I still remember watching the pilot episode at New York Comic-Con, ecstatic at the prospect of a whole new kind of Marvel Universe to explore on TV.
Daredevil led to other Netflix series, including Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, The Punisher and The Defenders. All told, we had a solid few years of epic stories and characters. Unfortunately, before these interconnected series could reach their full potential, all of them were cancelled, most likely a victim of Disney wanting to consolidate its Marvel offerings under its own roof.
But now that Disney+ is off and running, there a chance that some of these shows could come back? In August of last year, IndieWire reported that, contractually, Disney couldn’t do much with the Netflix shows until the fall of 2020.
Well, ladies and gentlemen, the fall of 2020 is just around the corner, so maybe, just maybe, good news is coming our way soon. I would love to see Daredevil back on the screen again, with Charlie Cox donning the mask once more. Fans have revamped their efforts to get Disney to bring the series back, so here’s to hoping!
And the fans have friends in high places. Speaking to ComicBook.com, Vincent D’Onofrio — who played the Daredevil’s criminal nemesis the Kingpin — is fully in support of his colleague suiting back up:
"I still believe in Charlie Cox as the Daredevil, and I think that if [Marvel Studios] do a Daredevil film, or have a Daredevil in one of their films, I only hope that it’s Charlie because I believe in him as Daredevil. I loved working with that guy. Not just because he’s a great guy but because he’s a fine actor…Charlie was on it, every day we were together, on it all the time, which brings us both up a notch."
I can 100% attest to the fact that Cox is a phenomenal actor, and if you’re not convinced by Marvel’s Daredevil, check him out in seasons 2 and 3 of HBO’s Boardwalk Empire, or better yet, in the fantasy movie Stardust.
I truly hope that Disney has a plan for Daredevil in place, because the Marvel Netflix shows were too good an addition to the MCU to just let fall by the wayside. There’s a lot of opportunity for crossovers with other characters and stories, plus many more solo adventures to explore. And with Fox now owned by Disney, maybe we can finally see where that Bullseye tease in the final moments of Marvel’s Daredevil season 3 was going.
